  1. this product is the worst product I ever purchased. I bought this product and had nothing but problems. I called tech support who was niothing but rude to me who told me that the router was defective and to return it. I returned this router and decided to try again so I purchased the same router again and had the same problems all over again. I would not reccommend this product to anyone.

  2. I bought this router for my new apartment thinking I’d use something better in the future. I’m sure the turbo g works fine because the computers I had on the network were able to communicate within the LAN, but this item is not compatible with my cable company’s setup and WAN is unaccessible.

I subscribe to Comcast in the SF bay area and new service comes with an Arris telephony modem. Apparently, with Comcast and this modem, Comcast requires you to use the MAC address associated with the modem they lease to you.

After hooking this unit up, you realize that the unit knows only to report the MAC address associated with this router. The conflict lies in that Comcast does not recognize this new MAC address. Calling Comcast will get you confused customer service reps that won’t change the MAC address associated with the account. Calling Buffalo will get you a knowledgable rep, but can only tell you to ask Comcast to change their MAC address on file.

Now, since I had to get wireless set up for this place immediately, I went to Circuit City to buy a standard D-Link g router. The D-Link router knows how to clone the MAC address of the modem for the router so that Comcast does not get confused.

Before buying this unit, check with your cable internet ISP to make sure they can change MAC addresses if you want to be able to use it for world wide web. It seems to have special features for logging onto DSL, but I personally have not tried.

This compatibility issue made me conclude that it’s definitely a 1-star modem, especially since D-Link recognizes the same problem and has a built in feature to accomodate. Aside from that, the 1-star rating also reflects the 3 hrs wasted on tech support and another hour wasted on going to Circuit City to buy the new router and to go to UPS to return this thing to Amazon.

  3. This is the second Buffalo wireless router I’ve purchased. The first one did not work correctly, and after waiting on hold for almost 30 minutes, tech support finally fielded my questions. The technician was curt and rude, and he couldn’t locate the problem. Finally he suggested that the unit may be bad. He suggested I buy another. It didn’t work either. They say this is simple to install–and it couldn’t be installed even with the technician’s help. I have installed other wireless routers without any problems. I don’t recommend this product.

  4. The directions to setup this router are horrible for DSL users with PPPOE. I have tried numerous times to contact Buffalo to work through the issues, but cannot reach the support staff. I have sat on hold for over 50 minutes at a given time with no luck in getting through.

I would strongly discourage purchasing this router. I am going to repackage and send back to Amazon.

  5. I can’t complain about the actual unit since I could not get it to even set up yet. It would help if Buffalo would have a list of routers that this unit is not compatible with instead of making me waste many hours of my time going nuts trying to figure out why in the hell it won’t work. Tech support was at least easy to reach, but they were not much help in this instance, because again, if your product is not compatible with something as simple as a basic Verizon router then you need to SAY THIS. Many hours wasted, and now I have to drop money for another unit because I cannot set this up as an Access Point like they said you could.

Have a list of incompatible Routers OTHER than your own and save the customer the headache and major frustration of trying to figure out why in the hell something that should be simple to set up is taking years off my life. Thanks for wasting my time.

Also, how about including directions in the box instead of making me go find it on the web page.

Maybe once the second unit get’s here I’ll write another review, but for now my aggravation and frustration is giving this one star, and only because I can’t give it none.
