As a personal trainer looking for ways to challenge my clients I thought this book would be helpful but I was wrong. It’s a ‘dumb-down’ tutorial – I found more interesting things online.

Interesting program to ensure getting seriously overtrained in a very short period of time. No wonder those military guys are so grumpy and quarrelsome. If you have internet access and google (shhhhh!) you can find this book for free online. . . For normal people who aren’t genetic superstars or on steroids I would highly suggest checking out Stuart McRobert’s “Beyond Brawn” instead.

I built a spreadsheet around this for comp cycling. I boosted power and dropped weight simultaneously. For the seriously committed this is by far the most scientifically validated (if not valid) work on nutrition. Companion it with the N. SEAL fitness guide and you’ll be amazed at your nitro-charged energy levels, libido and charm. Well, the last is more your option but the first two aren’t. Well worth a read and you’ll not only live longer, you’ll have more fun whilst you do! The key is to keep at it!

I found that a lot of the information in this book was stuff that I already knew, even though I don’t have any real formal education in sports and fitness. The stuff on nutrition is basically what you probably already know from your high school biology class, although there are a few good tips that I hadn’t heard before. As for the weightlifting and calisthenics, most of it I already knew, although there were one or two exercises I hadn’t seen before. If you already work out and eat right on a regular basis you probably don’t need this book, but if you’re totally clueless when it comes to exercise and nutrition then this book is a good value for you.

Fantastic book! If you’re out just looking for the basics of nutrition or looking to be in top notch shape like a Navy Seal this book is for you. This book has zero hype and all facts in a moderately easy to read format. It really set me straight on how different foods effect my energy levels and a very simple explanation of how to loose/gain wieght (a great diagram btw). The fitness portion was very informative and gave great examples of wieght lifting, running, swimming and cross training. All and all I am very happy with this purchase and will continue to reference to it for years to come!
